The lar gibbon, also known as the white-handed gibbon, is one of the better-known gibbons and is often kept in captivity. Its fur varies from black and dark brown to light brown and sandy, and both males and females can be any colour. The hands and feet are white, and a ring of white hair surrounds the black face. Like all gibbons it is a true brachiator, swinging through the trees by its arms (Wikipedia, general species account).
