The black flying squirrel, also called the large black flying squirrel, is a rodent in the squirrel family (Sciuridae). It is a gliding squirrel of the forests of Sundaland, found in Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia (Wikipedia, general species account).

It lives in primary and secondary forest and also uses gardens, and it shelters in tree hollows. It feeds on fruit, nuts and other plant matter. Females breed infrequently and have a litter of just one young, so populations tend to be smaller than those of other squirrels, although the species adapts to some habitat loss (Wikipedia, general species account).
