The Mongolian mountain vole has a head-and-body length of 10.4–14.0 centimetres and a tail of 2.4–3.5 centimetres, with hind feet of 19–23 millimetres and ears of 15–21 millimetres, which makes it a comparatively large species of its genus. The underside is sandy-white and sharply bounded from the back on the flanks, often with a yellowish-red stripe at the boundary. The tail is covered with white hairs and stands out clearly in colour from the darker back. It is a rodent of the mountain vole genus Alticola, found in Mongolia, southern Siberia and the north of the Chinese province of Inner Mongolia. (German Wikipedia, general species account)
