About this species
- Habitat
- Cultivated fields, in raised moist mounds of earth
- Range
- India, Nepal and Pakistan; possibly Indonesia
The earth-coloured mouse is found in India, Nepal and Pakistan, and possibly Indonesia. It lives in cultivated fields, in raised moist mounds of earth, where it burrows and builds its nest about 20 cm deep. Living in a raised mound may give it more air flow from the surrounding sides as well as from above (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its sibling species, the little Indian field mouse, burrows in the flat parts of the field instead, which lets the two species live together by using different niches. The cached account gives no description, measurements, diet or breeding information (Wikipedia, general species account).
