It is recorded in Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Laos, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam (Wikipedia, general species account).
The Mammal Diversity Database marks Nepal with a query for this species, so its occurrence there is not firmly settled. The short source opened gives nothing on diet, habitat or breeding, so none is stated, and the entry is flagged as thin. Nationally Data Deficient (Nepal National Red List 2011).
