Head and body length is 70 to 78 mm, tail length 65 to 68 mm and hind foot 14 mm (Wikipedia, general species account).
The species is restricted to Ngoc Linh mountain in Kon Tum Province and is known from three males trapped in April 2004 at 2,300–2,400 m in forest on the western side of the mountain. It is named after the Russian zoologist Vladimir Sokolov (1928–1998), and with Crocidura zaitsevi it is endemic to Ngoc Linh.
