The Malayan water shrew, also known as the hantu water shrew, is a red-toothed shrew recorded only from the Malaysian state of Selangor. Its scientific name comes from the Malay word hantu, meaning ghost (Wikipedia, general species account).
It lives in the tropical rainforest of Peninsular Malaysia, mainly beside freshwater lakes and rivers surrounded by vegetation, and spends much of its time underwater, staying in leafy areas to avoid predators and surprise its prey, which includes fish, frogs and plants (Wikipedia, general species account).
