The spotted-winged fruit bat is the smallest megabat in the world, with a head and body of 5.2–6.2 cm, a wingspan of about 28 cm and a weight of about 13 g. The head and body are covered in thick blackish-brown fur, paler grey-brown below. The wings are dark brown with distinctive pale cream spots, most visible at the joints, and there are pale markings in front of the large eyes and on the ears. The nostrils are elongated and splayed to the side of the snout (Wikipedia, general species account).
It inhabits forests in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The spots on the wings separate it from other small fruit bats, as does an unusual dental arrangement. The cached account used here gives no diet or roosting information (Wikipedia, general species account).
