- Malay Peninsula south of the Isthmus of Kra, Borneo and Sumatra
The dayak fruit bat, or dyak fruit bat, is a relatively rare frugivorous megabat found only on the Sunda Shelf: the Malay Peninsula south of the Isthmus of Kra, Borneo and Sumatra. Few specimens of this or its two relatives exist, partly because of their rarity and partly because they rarely enter the forest sub-canopy where they can be caught in nets (Wikipedia, general species account).
It averages under 150 g, gray-brown above and silver-gray below, with short fur and a short tail. It is very rare in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, and recent netting in Poring, Kubah, Kota Samarahan and Pontianak extended its known range to western and southern Borneo and gave the first record for West Kalimantan (as reported on Wikipedia).
