About this species

The fawn leaf-nosed bat is a medium-sized roundleaf bat with two lateral leaflets on its greyish-pink nose-leaf and triangular ears. Pups are dark grey, maturing to dark brown in adults, and the fur often bleaches to bright orange from the ammonia of droppings in communal roosts. The species received its first scientific description by John Gould in his Mammals of Australia (1854), the author assigning it to the genus Rhinolophus with some hesitation. (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its recorded distribution includes Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vanuatu (Wikipedia, general species account). The fawn leaf-nosed bat (Hipposideros cervinus) belongs to bat in the family Hipposideridae found in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vanuatu. The specimens referred to by Gould and subsequent authors were obtained at Cape York Peninsula and Albany Island (Pabaju) at the northeast of Australia. The range of measurements describing Hipposideros cervinus for the forearm are 45–48 millimetres, the combined head and body length 41–51 mm, ear length from the tip to the notch at base 13–15 mm. (Wikipedia, general species account).
