About this species
- Range
- South Asia, the Far East, the eastern Caucasus and Southeast Asia
The eastern bent-wing bat is a vesper bat in the bent-winged bat family, found in South Asia, Far East Asia, the eastern Caucasus and Southeast Asia. The colour varies from reddish brown to dark blackish brown above, with lighter underparts and blackish-brown wing membranes. The fur is dense and soft, long above and short below, the ears are small and the cheeks are hairless below the eyes (Wikipedia, general species account).
A 2018 study reported that echolocation frequencies were very similar among colonies, and that variation in calls was likely due to background noise rather than genetic drift. The cached account gives no measurements, habitat, diet or breeding information, and nothing specific to South Asia (Wikipedia, general species account). Its occurrence in East Asia is independently supported by the national catalogue and distribution evidence used to assemble this regional guide.
