About this species
- Range
- Gongshan mountains in north-west Yunnan, south-east Tibet, north-east India (especially Arunachal Pradesh) and northern Myanmar
The Gongshan muntjac lives in the Gongshan mountains of north-western Yunnan, south-east Tibet, north-east India, especially Arunachal Pradesh, and northern Myanmar. Genetic studies show it to be very closely related to the hairy-fronted muntjac, possibly close enough to be the same species despite different colouring, though this is disputed. Earlier records of the hairy-fronted muntjac in Arunachal Pradesh are in fact this species (Wikipedia, general species account).
Ongoing hunting is a major threat. It has been observed in two large protected areas in Myanmar, Khakaborazi National Park and Hponkanrazi Wildlife Sanctuary. The cached account is very short and gives no measurements, diet or breeding information (Wikipedia, general species account).
