The Sela macaque is a recently discovered macaque endemic to Arunachal Pradesh in north-eastern India. It was formally described in 2022 from molecular and morphological evidence, and is distinct from the closely related Arunachal macaque. It is stocky, with dense brownish-yellow fur, prominent ears, a pink face and deep-set light-brown eyes (Wikipedia, general species account).
Both species share a robust build and relatively long dorsal hair, but the Sela macaque has a paler face and lighter brown coat, while the Arunachal macaque has a darker face and dark brown fur. Some reports suggest it is larger than the Arunachal macaque, at 71–82 cm in body length. Its lifespan is unknown. The cached account gives no ecology or breeding information (Wikipedia, general species account).
