Max's short-tailed gymnure is a gymnure of Malaysia and Indonesia, previously treated as a subspecies of Hylomys suillus but now regarded as a full species. In Sumatra it has been found between 100 and 2,000 m above sea level; on the Malay Peninsula its range is restricted to 600–1,700 m, and may extend into southern Thailand (Wikipedia, general species account).
