About this species
- Range
- Endemic to Sri Lanka
This leaf-nosed bat was formally described in 2025 by Kusuminda and colleagues in Zootaxa, led by Bhargavi Srinivasulu. It was previously treated as Hipposideros galeritus and was split on form, DNA and echolocation calls after about a decade of work. It has a broad nose-leaf, a distinctive ear shape and specific skull features, and lives in Sri Lankan forests and caves (Wikipedia, general species account, which is a stub).
The 2012 National Red List predates the split, so this species has no national status of its own. It lists Hipposideros galeritus as Nationally Vulnerable (Sri Lanka National Red List 2012).
